Italy on a budget

Italy can be an expensive place to travel, especially if you’re on a budget. Below are my top tips and tricks for travelling throughout the top spots in Italy.

  1. Try to get a lot of your meals from supermarkets. A lot of places in Italy are mainly tourists so they know they can bump their menu prices up. Try and get breakfast and lunch from the supermarkets (which are everywhere). Then for dinner you can find 5 euro pizzas at most restaurants or if you like something more splash out.
  2. Flix busses are a super cheap way to travel between cities. They have free wifi, usb chargers, curtains and reclining seats and can be as cheap as 4.99 Euro between cities.
  3. If you want to save on accomodation travel over night. If you have a long journey, travelling from for example 12pm – 7am on a train or bus can save you that nights accomodation. Hotels are happy for you to leave your bags at the hotel during the day if you have checked in for the following night. So get as much sleep on your bus/train then spend the day exploring.
  4. Book in advance. Booking your busses, flights, train, ferries and accomodation early can save you a lot of money. The closer you book to the date of travel the more expensive it can be.

Ultimate guide to Capri, Italy

Capri may be considered paradise for many people, its amazing grottos, crystal clear water and breath taking views. Only a 45 minute, 30km ferry trip off the coast of Italy, you can see why Capri is a celebrity and tourist favourite.

One of the must sees in Capri is the famous Blue Grotto, along with the many other grottos around the island. These can only be seen by boat. As soon as you get onto Capri you will find a lot of people selling different packages to the Grotto. Take your pick and enjoy the boat ride.

A secret gem that many don’t know about is the chair lift to the highest point of the island. For only 12 euro return with a cafe at the top. this is the perfect way to see breath taking views from the top of the island. Only a short drive from the main beach (Taxi will cost 5 euro to the chair lift), this is a must do on your trip.

During a boat tour around the island, you will also see the ‘rich side’ of the island. This is a celebrity hot spot. The yachts in the water during our trip included Tommy Hilfiger, with views of Gianni Versace’s old mansions and Benito Mussolini’s old mansion.
